Best Practices for Transformative and Successful Interviews

Hedley Lawson / Aligned Growth Partners, LLC.

As we often find with our client companies, they have interview processes in place. And as we also find, organizations need our assistance to transform and elevate their processes while ensuring they are consistent, transformational and sustainable.

When partnering with our client companies, we work collaboratively together to focus on the following ‘Best Practices’ across their organization.

Here are a few highlights to share with you and your teams:

#1

Develop a cohesive, consistent, collaborative interview process. In doing so, ensure that you continuously assess and evaluate what works well and why, what isn’t working well and why, and discuss necessary changes in the process going forward.

#2

Ensure interview teams consist of no more than five members, creating a comprehensive evaluation plan covering all necessary criteria.

#3

Construct an interview team with the hiring team leader and team members who possess the knowledge of the open position criteria and ‘fit’ with the team.

#4

Allocate specific criteria and topics for each interview team member to ensure a thorough candidate experience and evaluation.

#5

Ensure time is allocated for candidates to ask questions, allowing time for each candidate to adequately inform the interview team of essential criteria that demonstrates their ‘fit’ with the company, the team and the open position.

#6

Encourage the interview team to give timely feedback post-interview, capturing their assessments and impressions accurately.

Once a decision is made to select the candidate(s), provide timely feedback to each non-selected candidate, with appreciation for offering their candidacy and, if appropriate, if they may receive future consideration for an open position that fits with their qualifications.
